Martin Papworth This is the photo of the house of my childhood, Crownfield, Bull Road, Vange. I lived there from 1954 to the mid sixties. It just had two bedrooms and a living room/ kitchen, with a zinc bath on the outside wall and an outside toilet. The closest we came to a fridge was a meat safe on the outside wall. There was an old well in the back garden, which had been partially filled in, but which frequently had adders in it.
Bath time was Sunday evening, when the zinc bath was brought in and filled with water from a gas geyser that had a specially adapted long tap. Privacy was ensured by a portable screen and we all shared the same water, dad first, then mum, then me Does anyone else have photos and stories of Bull Road.
